Southern O Scalers

SOUTHERN is a reference to our club's geographic origin and location. We are primarily located in the Atlanta, Georgia area but are available to operate in the Southeastern region of the U. S.

O, or O Scale/O Gauge is a reference to the size of the model train or car to the prototype and the width of the track from rail to rail. Our trains are O Scale models and operate on standard O Gauge 2 RAIL track . Most of our models and scenery is O Scale and therefore is a quarter inch to each foot of the prototype.

SCALERS is slang for scale!

Our present members consist of model train enthusiasts and collectors who primarily model in "O" but may have other train scales in their collections. We do not REQUIRE you to model in any particular train scale or even have model trains. You just need to have an interest in TRAINS and having fun.

At the present time club expenses are paid from voluntary contributions by the members. We do not have any set dues at this time.

Our layout consists of 84" diameter curves and 6' modules that are constructed of Luann plywood with 2 inch blue foam for track and scenery sub roadbed. The layout has a 2 track mainline and can include a yard. The layout can be set up in different size configurations, including a circle, but we generally set it up in a 18' x 45' foot configuration. The track used is Atlas and Old Pullman code 148. We have 4 Atlas switches.

Only 2 rail O Scale trains that are scale or close to scale are run on the layout. The club does not own its own trains. Individual members bring the trains they wish to operate.

A member can purchase a prebuilt module and add the track and scenery if they choose. However, members are not required to purchase a module.

We generally set up the layout 2 times a year at train shows or special events that we are invited to. We have a trailer that the layout and most of the equipment is stored in. Members run their trains during these shows. We generally have meets 1 time a month at 160 South Church Street, Canton, Georgia 30114
